Ultrasonic examination in critically ill course begins with introductory lectures on ultrasound technology, the increasing importance of the technique for critical care use in both central venous procedures and diagnosis, and the basic views that are going to be demonstrated.
The scanning stations should represent the following
Arterial/Venous access: Internal jugular vein; Axillary/subclavian artery and vein; Femoral artery and vein; PICC placement; the stations will be divided into upper and lower extremity
Cardiac imaging; Parasternal, Apical and sub-xiphoid views; discuss volume responsiveness and IVC diameter. Also cardiac output monitoring for apical window
Blue phantom gels; needle manipulation and probe management.
